Changemaker Showcase for Earth Day

Live Oak showed its environmental changemaker spirit at the Earth Day Celebration.
Each grade level has dedicated time and energy to engaging in a Green Initiative Project and members of the Middle School Green Team were on hand Friday, April 21 to present the various projects to the school community in a gallery walk on the field at Jackson Park. Aside from the project showcase, the whole school gathered to sing an environmentally-themed version of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” called “Green It”, while grades 1-4 performed songs of their own for the school. Finally, Groves worked together to make an Earth Day paper chain where students and staff brainstormed ways they could contribute to a cleaner environment.

Below is a list of Green Initiatives that classes have or are completing:
Kindergarten - Jackson Park playground trash collection
First grade - Clearing out the Lost and Found 
Second grade - Water usage and conservation education 
Third grade - Eco-friendly snack packaging and disposal
Fourth grade - Visiting the Recology facility, collecting trash, and making wax wrappers
Fifth grade - Collecting and repurposing old glue sticks 
Sixth grade - Organizing Bike & Roll to School Day, building vertical gardens, beach cleanup, recycling school supplies
Seventh grade - Researching and presenting ideas about where our clothes come from
Eighth grade - Environmental stewardship and place-based lessons around climate, environmental racism, and renewable energy at Heron’s Head Park
