    The Lower School Dean of Student Wellness strengthens the capacity of the school to promote a healthy school climate by facilitating ongoing support of  students in the classroom and ensuring that support services are integrated into the school community. The Lower School Dean of Student Wellness is to promote student success through student wellness, social-emotional learning, and the Collaborative Problem Solving approach. The Lower School Dean of Student Wellness will remain current on trends in social-emotional learning and wellness services, including the latest educational research findings, and the Collaborative Problem Solving approach.
     
    The Lower School Dean of Student Wellness guides the successful practices of the Lower School that promotes every student reaching their full potential and promise. 
     
    Seeking applicants for current opening or 26-27 school year.
     
    Primary Responsibilities: 
    • In partnership with the Collaborative Problem Solving approach, serve as the primary implementation leader in the K-4 classrooms, directly supporting students and leading classroom teachers.
    • Manage student referral process and conflict resolution process.
      • Connect students and families to resources needed, follow up with teachers on student support and progress
      • Communicate the cycle of student concern and progress to teachers and families.
      • Design and lead Tier 2 student social groups in response to demonstrated need 
    • Provide support to teachers in problem solving student conflicts and determine next steps when problems arise.
      • Push in support 
    • Know the students well, paying particular attention to, and providing strategies for, students who are at higher risk of facing social-emotional or mental health challenges.
      • Collaborate with Lower School faculty and teachers to identify students in need of mental health services and make referrals to outside providers for assessment, evaluation, and therapeutic services. 
      • Keep up to date current and potential outside resources for mental health support and evaluation.
    • Act as a proactive and responsive resource for students, families, faculty on issues that arise involving social-emotional wellness in the lower school student community. 
      • Design and implement the lower school social-emotional learning curriculum.
      • Collaborate with and support lower school faculty in teaching integrated SEL lessons within the class curriculum.
    • Collaborate and communicate with the Lower School Division Director regularly.
      • Communicate grade-level updates through the class pages and messages to parents/guardians.
      • Support as needed in school-wide or grade-level meetings.
    • Support the students’ leadership in building their own positive and community-centric identity.
    • Support Lower School participation in school wide activities
      • Support the execution of the Relationship Mapping process
    • Collaborate and communicate with the Lower School Division Director regularly.
      • Communicate grade-level updates through the class pages and messages to parents/guardians.
      • Support as needed in school-wide or grade-level meetings.
    • Support parent enrichment and education opportunities, including collaboration and support on roundtables.
    • Support the Admissions process.
    • Meet regularly with the Lower School Division Director, Dean of Student Inclusion and Belonging, Lower School Deans of Student Wellness, Collaborative Problem Solving  Implementation Team, Lower School Grade Level Teams, Lower School Student Support Meetings, and Lower School Student Resource Group.
    • Additional duties as assigned.

The Lower School Dean of Student Wellness serves the student body of Live Oak School’s K-4th grade community.

    Primary Responsibilities: 
    • In partnership with the Collaborative Problem Solving approach, serve as the primary implementation leader in the 5-8 classrooms, directly supporting students and leading classroom teachers.
    • Manage student referral process and conflict resolution process.
      • Connect students and families to resources needed, follow up with teachers on student support and progress, facilitate restorative processes, manage give-backs, and advise on student consequences. 
      • Communicate the cycle of student concern and progress to teachers and families. 
    • Know the students well, paying particular attention to, and providing strategies for,  students who are at higher risk of facing social-emotional or mental health challenges.
      • Serve as the primary resource for students in immediate crisis and develop a re-entry and/or external support process as needed. 
        • Manage temporary check-ins for students at points of higher SEL needs to best determine need for external, individualized support
      • Collaborate with Middle School faculty and teachers to identify students in need of mental health services and make referrals to outside providers for assessment, evaluation, and therapeutic services. 
      • Keep up to date current and potential outside resources for mental health support.
    • Act as a proactive and responsive resource for students, families, faculty on issues that arise involving social-emotional wellness in the Middle school student community. 
      • Collaborate with the team of Deans to design and support the implementation of the Middle school social-emotional learning curriculum.
      • Support in the design and implementation of Advisory Curriculum
    • Collaborate and communicate with the Middle School Division Director regularly.
      • Communicate grade-level updates through the class pages and messages to parents/guardians.
      • Support as needed in school-wide or grade-level meetings.
    • Support and lead parent enrichment and education opportunities, including collaboration and support on roundtables. 
    • Regularly assess the culture and climate of the Middle School, paying particular attention to supporting the students’ leadership in building their own positive and community-centric identity.
      • In Partnership with the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
        • Support the execution of the Relationship Mapping process
      • Oversee Middle School participation in school wide activities
        • Ex: Halloween, Music Festivals, Field Trips, Outdoor Education Trips, and Eighth Grade Civil Rights Tour
        • Lead the development and distribution of Acorns Times 
      • Manage and oversee Middle School student life 
        • Ex: Plan and Organize student activities/clubs, Middle School Dance, and Middle School Assemblies
        • Oversee any special activities specific to grade level
          • 6th Grade Orientation, Graduation Speeches, Reflections, Changemaker and Social Impact Projects.
    • Meet regularly with the Middle School Division Director, Dean of Student Inclusion and Belonging, LS Dean of Student Wellness, Collaborative Problem Solving Implementation Team, Grade Level Teams, Advisory Teams, and Student Support Teams
      • Collaborate with Dean of Student Inclusion and Belonging and LS Dean of Student Wellness to ensure k-8 alignment to student SEL and mental health support.
      • Push into the k-4 program and support the Lower School Dean of Student Wellness to bridge services and provide continuity when appropriate. 
      • Lead  whole grade or whole division meetings as needed.
    • General School Support - Admissions, Events (Back to School Night, Open Houses, etc)
    • Additional duties as assigned.

This role facilitates ongoing communication among students, staff, and families to ensure that support services and programs are integrated into the school community setting. The Middle School Learning Specialist will remain current on trends in learning services, including the latest educational research findings, and the Think:Kids approach to Collaborative Problem Solving. The role of the Middle School Learning Specialist is to promote student success through student wellness, social-emotional learning, and the Collaborative Problem Solving approach.
     
    The Middle School Learning Specialist guides the successful learning support practices of the Live Oak School program that promotes every student reaching their full potential and promise.
     
    Seeking applicants for current opening or 26-27 school year.

    Primary Responsibilities of the Middle School Learning Specialist
    • Case Management and Referrals - Collaborate with the Director of Learning Services to make recommendations to families for outside evaluation and support, while also facilitating regular communication between students, families, and outside providers
    • Faculty Collaboration and Training - Work with teachers and specialists to implement instructional techniques to reach all learners, differentiate learning practices, understand and implement learning profiles, and provide resources as necessary
      • Observation - Push into classrooms to support, observe, and give feedback for implementation of a balanced, responsive, and differentiated approach
    • Teach 6th Grade Learning Lab Classes
    • Screening and Assessment - Conduct student screenings using a variety of informal and formal assessment tools: provide regular feedback to teachers, parents, and students when appropriate
      • Interpretation - Interpret results of in-house screenings and assessments as well as reports prepared by outside professionals and communicate this information with teachers as appropriate
    • Meetings - Participate in weekly Student Support Meeting, grade level and staff meetings, and meet regularly with the Director of Learning Services and Middle School Division Director
    • Coordinate the Individual Student Support Program
    • Coordinate curriculum for students in the program
      • Meet with a limited number of students
    • Family Collaboration - Help families understand their child’s learning style, needed accommodations, and techniques that can be implemented in the home; provide resources as necessary
    • Scheduling of Spaces for Outside Learning Specialists/Tutors - Share coordination of room assignments and schedules with the Director of Learning Services

    Additional School-Wide Expectations
    • Offer Brainery recess support times (in lieu of middle school recess/lunch duty)
    • Supports Admissions Work
      • -Host tours and visitors, as well as participating in the Middle School Open House
      • -Serve as a member of the kindergarten screening team and facilitating screening of applicants to the middle school grades
    • Co-lead a monthly meeting of mixed age group students (Grove)
    • Chaperone one Middle School Evening Event
    • Support students during one evening event, such as the Middle School Music Festival, middle school dance, or movie night
    • Attend the MS Music Festival/MS Drama Productions/Art Show
    • Participate in the outdoor ed/travel overnight education trip
    • Write speeches for graduates and attend the Eighth Grade Reflections Ceremony (to be determined by previous experience with the graduating class)
    • Participate in Camp Live Oak

    Qualifications
    :
    • Bachelor’s Degree required
    • Master’s level degree preferred
    • Experience working with students with learning challenges
    • Learning Specialist/Educational Therapist is desired

    The Middle School Learning Specialist is 100% full time and reports to the Director of Learning Services. The Middle School Learning Specialist works collaboratively with the Division Directors, the Learning Services team, the Middle School Deans, and the Middle School faculty.

    Primary Responsibilities of the Middle School Spanish Teacher:
    • The Middle School Spanish Teacher is responsible for the planning, consistent documentation, and implementation of the middle school program, in accordance with the department standards and school’s educational philosophy, established scope and sequence, and adopted resources.
    • Estimated course load: Teach 6 sections of middle school level Spanish; oversee a weekly club; and participate in duties and study halls.
