Live Oak sixth and seventh graders packed their camping gear and headed out for their respective outdoor education overnights this past week. During their two nights at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, sixth graders built community with their classmates by working together to prepare meals, performing skits, playing games, going on a bluff hike and a night walk, and a swim in a lagoon by the ocean. Seventh graders spent three nights in Yosemite taking in some of the most iconic national park sights as they hiked, explored caves, identified geologic formations, and worked together to set up and maintain their camp. The trips provided challenging opportunities to push our students’ experiential learning boundaries, while also making time for valuable interpersonal connection that helps lay a strong groundwork for collaboration in the year ahead.
