See some of the latest event activity in this brief round up. Thank you to all the families, faculty and staff, and students who help coordinate and participate in these activities that enrich the Live Oak experience.
Book Fest was highlighted this week by a series of author visits from Kiyash Monsef, Joanna Ho, and Jenny Andrus & Julie Downing. We appreciate their time sharing about their work and helping champion the power of literature to be an outlet for self expression, identity building, and cultural education. Thank you to librarians Brittany and Layla for their leadership in coordinating an enriching and engaging Book Fest for our students.
Pajamas, robes, and slippers set the tone for a comfy cozy Drop Everything And Read Day on Wednesday.
Our fourth graders recently spent three days and two nights at Westminster Woods in Occidental, focusing on marine ecology and kicking off their new science unit on ecosystems. Their activities included learning about the life cycle of the salmon that live in the nearby creek, watersheds, the Indigenous people of the land, and they created a food web centered on the salmon that deepened their understanding of the salmon’s role in the ecosystem.
Live Oak welcomed back a group of recent alumni at an evening event last week geared toward the students and parents/guardians of the Class of 2026. The panelists–all current high school sophomores and juniors representing a range of independent schools around the area–provided insight on their academic and extracurricular experiences, tips for the application process, and more.
