Eighth Grade Student-Athlete of the Year Award

Congratulations to Amelia, Ellis O., Gabi and Tao, who are the recipients of the Eighth Grade Student-Athlete of the Year Award. This award goes to the eighth graders who exhibited the highest level of performance as student-athletes and demonstrated the values of teamwork, work ethic, leadership, and commitment on multiple sports teams throughout the school year. They represented Live Oak in a way that epitomizes what it means to be a student-athlete.
The four recipients were interviewed on what their favorite memories or achievements were during their time participating in Live Oak athletics. Here are their responses:

Gabi - “One of my favorite memories from Live Oak sports is our eighth grade volleyball season. Our team improved so much throughout the season, and qualified for playoffs. In the first round of playoffs we played a very strong team that we took to three sets. Although we lost the game, that game was energetic and competitive and one of my favorite memories from playing sports at Live Oak.”

Tao - “Winning the seventh grade futsal finals was one of my favorite memories from Live Oak. The first half was intense and ended with the score 0-0. We then started playing really well and won the game 3-1. It was super fun to win the championship with all of my friends.

“Winning the cross country championship was also a favorite memory because we had a super strong team culture and I think we swept the finals. It was also super fun to finish number 1 and 2 with Everett.

“Lastly, the regular season basketball game against CDS was super fun even though we lost because it was super competitive and well matched and we played well as a team.”

Amelia - “My favorite memory was definitely winning the varsity girls basketball championship with my friends.”

Ellis O. - “I have loved being able to play multiple sports each year. My favorite memories from Live Oak sports are winning the futsal championship with my seventh grade team, and having an undefeated eighth grade volleyball regular season with my mom as coach.”
